A GROUP FOR MANY PROJECTS
These Groups can be one of the following or others that you think of or a number of them together. This means your group can take on one or many projects, or even divided up into different groups within the group if you have enough people.
They can be a simple soup kitchen. What about a gardening club, where you go round helping people tidy their gardens. It can be an outings group where you take children from poor families or old people on outings or in some cases shopping trips.
How about Prison visits, Hospital visits many lonely people here, Old people homes, got the idea.
You can have a group that helps the old, sick, single parents with house work or even just a chat. Or house painting, or house cleaning, etc. How about taking teens camping? There are many single parents that need a helping hand at times. Fun raising Groups, There must be others you can think of? What about street kids?or areas of prostitutes
All these groups have this in common. They are all Christian based, and all opportunities to WITNESS and bring lost souls into God’s family.
Starting a group is a gift you give not only to yourself, but to the people in your community who want to deepen their ability to hear God's Voice in their lives as well or who are seeking help, advice, support and salvation. Your Chance to Serve God and others
In Acts 10:38 we read, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good….” Jesus went about doing good to others; as His servants, we must follow His example 1 John 2:6. In Romans 12:18-21 Prov. 25:21-22, we learn that acts of kindness and benevolence can change people’s hearts. Our demonstration of love toward people might result in their obedience to the gospel of Christ. The “coals” referred to in Romans 12:20, are pains of shame which kind treatment will produce. We have an Old Testament example in 1 Samuel 24:16-19.
Do we believe this Scripture? Of course we do! But is it true in our lives? Have we become "fishers of men" since we began to follow Him? If not, why not? Jesus said, "I will make you to become fishers of men." Not I can make you, or I might make you, but I will make you.
Jesus said, "Ye shall be witnesses unto me..." Have we failed in our witness? Have we been living a life that witnesses to those about us? Make no mistake, no one will be saved simply by watching our lives. Somewhere along the way we must give them the gospel message, but how we live our lives before them will determine how responsive they will be to that all important message.
Do we have compassion for the lost? Are we willing to make contact with them? Then will we care for them by ministering to their need? Are we willing to pay what it may cost? These are questions that each of us must come to grips with if we desire to "become fishers of men"!
Compassion: when we have compassion toward others, then we treat them as God has treated us
Christian Community Outreach Activities
Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Many Christian parents have claimed Proverbs 22:6 as a wonderful promise concerning their children--a promise that their sons and daughters would turn out to be model Christian young people.
If current trends continue, only 4% of children will grow up to be Bible-believing adults.
Don't let this happen to children in your care. we are here to help you in a small way, use it to help build up your children in a loving family of God. We need to protect them and show them this real love.
Also while you are in prayer for the children please pray for us that are reaching out to help children and spreading the Good News to them in far away places. Thank you.
Reaching the Homeless
How about a group, addressing the needs of the less fortunate members of our communities by distributing water, food and other basic necessities to nourish the body in addition to spiritual support to nourish the soul. Through these groups you will have a significant and positive impact in the lives of those we have the opportunity to work with.
You could expand on this in programs in an effort to better serve the homeless. One of the long term goals is to reach a point where we are able to open facilities by getting rent free unused building . These facilities will not be shelters but will be locations where homeless individuals will come to receive a free shower, wash their clothes and possible get a snack or meal.
The groups could collect donations of good clothing, blankets, sleeping bags etc and distribute these items from these facilities. Along with providing access to showers, laundry and food these facilities, could be a place where individuals will pray and hear the word of God.
Let it be a group that through our programs, we will have a positive impact on each of the individuals we have the opportunity to work with and help them improve their lives.
This is a great opportunity to bring some children out of their street environment into the church/home group environment where they can safely enjoy a meal with you and learn about the love of Jesus.
Reach out to single parents
It's tough for a two parent family to raise children. it's even tougher for a single parent. Time seems to run out before everything gets done. Never a break. The "to do" list seems to get ever longer.
Action: Offer an evening or Saturday to help a single parent. That may include babysitting, fixing things, helping maintain a car, help cleaning the house, etc. Ask questions and be a good listener. Perhaps offer to pray. Make sure to continue to pray for them. Perhaps the Holy Spirit will prompt you to ask if they have ever heard the main message of the Bible, i.e. how to experience life to the full now and forever. They may be open to hearing the Good News and share if they show interest. [Note: men reach out to men, women to women to avoid misunderstandings.
Hospitality - reaching out to the lonely
Many people are lonely. They put on a good face of independence and pretend they have no need of others. There are others who have been hurt and are wary to make new friends. Strangely the greater the number of people the lonelier people become. Consider practicing hospitality. In Romans 12:13 we are encouraged (commanded) to be hospitable saying, "Practice hospitality."
Make plans with a neighbour, fellow employee, another student, etc. to watch a game, play a table game or just invite them over for a cup of coffee.
Helping Hand - serving with the heart of Jesus
Who is someone in need of a helping hand? Someone trying to fix, mow, or clean up something. Have you thought of lending a helping hand in the past but 'find an excuse' instead. Making excuses will cause us to miss opportunities that God can use as we live with faith that is radical and daring. Faith that lets Jesus live through you as you serve others without seeking anything in return.
Action: Pray to overcome excuses. Pray asking God to point out someone doing a physical task (fixing something, carrying groceries, moving in, etc.). Perhaps a neighbor, coworker or other acquaintance. Simply offer your help from a servant's heart. Even if they don't accept your offer, they will remember and it will build on the relationship you have with them. And it will allow Jesus' to develop His servant heart in you.
Hand Me Downs - cultivating the generous heart of Jesus
You've likely heard, "one man's trash is another man's treasure"? Many of the things that are no longer useful to us may be just what someone else would love to have. As we think about meeting people's felt needs and letting that be a gateway to their spiritual needs use gently used items of (not junk) hand me downs to open the door for a potential spiritual hand me down.
Action: This makes a good family activity. What do you have that you don't need but someone else could use and appreciate? Sports equipment, clothes, toys, an appliance, etc.? A friend of back in England bought his wife a new car as a gift, and they gave the one she was using away as a gift of love. Then them gather up (perhaps even some things you do need but the God's generous spirit in you frees you to include them too) and prayerfully seek the Lord in who to give them. It may lead to a spiritual conversation. Be prepared with a tract or ready to mention Jesus' generosity at work in your life to give glory to God and follow the Spirit at work.
Prayer - intercede for your neighbours
There is value in remembering the One who cares for everyone. God listens and is willing to move His loving hand in our lives and in our neighbourhoods. We need to seek Him to work in our neighbours lives as well as our own. We don't always know the best way to pray or love our neighbors. Asking the Lord is a good way to start.
Action: Pray for five uon your street. If you don't know there names, pray for individual homes. Be intentional to learn their names, family makeup, interests, etc. Pray for them to come into a personal relationship with Christ and ask God how you might be instrumental in helping them in this. Continue to pray for any specific prayer needs and building your personal relationship with them.
Hospitality - share a a little extra food
Remember when Jesus multiplied the "fish and loaves" to feed the neighbourhood.
Action: Making some cakes or pies or something you could make a little "extra". Perhaps you have a new neighbour. Or an elderly person or single parent that would appreciate your thoughtfulness to share it with them. Perhaps you might want to simply invite them over for a meal.
Inviting people to a dinner is not that complicated....but it is commanded!
"GO out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring the poor, and crippled and blind and lame. And the servant said, Sir what you have commanded we have done, and there is still room. And the Master said to the servant. "GO out to the highways and hedges and compel the people to come in that my house may be filled."
For those of us that read the Bible and hear God’s words, to us Luke 14:15-24 is another one of the important passages. We need to take it literally and believe it applies as much today as it did when Jesus gave the command.
If you have some free time read this entire passage and then sit down and ask yourself: "Am I the one making excuses or am I the one making disciples?"
We are given this extremely important task ...pray we will be faithful to the Lord in handing out these invitations to people who do not know -Jesus Christ and have not received their invitation to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb. The chairs are empty, food is hot , paid for, and plentiful... The Master is Angry and His servants are...doing what?
Can’t or not able to do it alone? Get a few friends together and do it together, when you can and as often as you can. May set a target of once a month. SOWING SEEDS.
Reaching out to Seniors - listen to experience
Senior citizens have wisdom, truth and humility. Yet they are often neglected. They like to tell their stories, sharing from the heart. They appreciate visiting and enjoy the company of younger people. Focus on being willing to listen to someone who longs to be heard.
Action: Find an older person and let them tell their story. Allow them to share when others are discounting them and their worth. Be quick to listen and slow to speak. If you don't know any seniors in your neighborhood, visit a care facility for seniors where you will find plenty of opportunities. And if you can, take a young child with you to guarantee a smile!
Jesus said, “I was a stranger, and ye took me not in:naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.”—Matthew 25:43
